A good coaching class can save you months of confusion; a poor one costs money and confidence. Before you pay a fee, visit the centre and ask these questions.
About teaching
- Who will actually teach my batch? The star teacher in the brochure may take only a few classes. Ask for the timetable with names.
- How big is a batch? Smaller batches mean more doubt-clearing. Ask for the number, not “limited seats”.
- How are doubts handled? Look for fixed doubt sessions, not just “ask after class”.
- Can I attend a demo class? A genuine institute will let you sit in on a real class, not a special show.
About results and study material
- How are results counted? Toppers who joined only a short test series are often counted as results. Ask how many students enrolled and how many cleared.
- Is the study material updated? Check that notes and tests follow the latest syllabus and exam pattern.
- How often are tests held, and are they analysed? A test is useful only if you get feedback on mistakes.
About money and flexibility
- What is the total fee, including taxes, material and test series?
- What is the refund policy in writing?
- What happens if a class is missed? Recorded lectures or backup classes are a big plus.
Red flags
- Pressure to pay “today only” for a discount.
- Guarantees of selection or rank.
- No written receipt or refund terms.
Talk to two or three current students outside the centre. Their experience is the most reliable review you will get.
